Ten high schools will go head-to-head in the 2019 High School Band Slam at the V&A Waterfront Amphitheatre from Thursday March 7 to Friday March 15, from 6pm.Â
The audience can expect to hear a wide range of music genres and pupils playing instruments including the drums, piano, guitar and saxophone.Â
The shortlist of schools include Rustenburg Girls’ High, Parklands College, Bergvliet High, Belhar High, Wynberg Girls’ High, Parel Vallei High, Norman Henshilwood High, Bishops, Bridgetown High and Elsies River High. The top three bands will stand a chance to win musical consultation and equipment for their school to the value of R20 000 from Mars Music.Â
An additional R5 000 V&A Waterfront gift voucher will be awarded to the school that demonstrates they have the best crowd participation and support.Â
Each school band will be a scored by a panel of industry experts according to three categories. Musicality includes song arrangements, technical proficiency, artistic ability, originality and interpretation. For presentations the judges will look at performance attitude, stage dominance, confidence and rapport.
