The Cape Town Big Band Jazz Festival is celebrating 19 years at the Baxter Concert Hall, and all jazz lovers are encouraged to support the latest four-day festival. The festival, which runs from Wednesday May 31 to Saturday June 3, will showcase 23 school, university and community big bands and funds raised will be used to support music initiatives in disadvantaged communities.
Some of the participating big bands include Rondebosch Boys’ Prep, Pinelands High School, Edujazz Big Band, Uni-Sound Big Band (musicians from Groote Schuur High School and St Joseph’s), Delft Big Band, Wynberg Boys’ High School, University of Cape Town (UCT) Big Band, Beau Soleil Music Centre, The Little Giants, Bergvliet High School, Sans Souci Jazz Cats, SACS Junior School Jazz Band and Rustenburg Girls’ High School. Tickets are R100 each for adults (R350 for all four performances) and R50 each for seniors, pupils and students. Book through Computicket.
