The musical, Oh What a Night, returns with its second season at the Baxter Theatre from Tuesday May 31 to Saturday June 4.
Written and directed by Crawford resident, Shadley Schroeder, Oh What a Night tells the true story of a young man from the Cape Flats who grew up among inspirational teachers, artists and performers.
Schroeder not only wrote and directed the musical, he also stars in it, alongside Kim Davidson and Krista Jonas.
His life’s journey from the age of 7 until now – as the CEO of his own production company – unfolds on stage and is interlaced with comedy, heartache and musical hits from the Motown era shared with a four-piece live band and two friends – Ms Davidson and Ms Jonas. The band features Ruaan Lewis on bass, Antonio Williams on drums, Mark Chadwick on saxophone and Justin Reed on keyboards.
“I’ve performed in numerous theatres from a very young age and always dreamt of taking my own production to a theatre stage one day, and now it is a reality. It’s a first for me and hopefully a springboard to bigger productions in the future,” Schroeder said.
Davidson is a 20-year-old rising star who has been performing in front of live audiences since she was 2. Jonas is a seasoned professional who is remembered for her performance in The Voice South Africa in 2019, where she made it to the top 16.
Naadir Agherdien, a retired business executive and a well-known sports administrator, is Schroeder’s mentor and life coach and is the show’s executive producer.
Oh What a Night will run in the Golden Arrow Studio at the Baxter Theatre from Tuesday May to Saturday June 4, at 8pm, and there is an additional Saturday afternoon show on June 4 at 4pm.
