A tip-off from the community led to the arrest of a 17-year-old boy from Vygieskraal Road, Manenberg, who was implicated in the murder of a 50-year-old man.
Manenberg police spokesman, Captain Ian Bennet, said the 50-year-old had been asleep at a residence in Peta Walk Manenberg, on Thursday August 17, when he was woken by a knock at the door and someone calling him.
When he opened the door, he was shot twice in the upper body. He died at the scene.
On the same day, Brigadier Enolium Joseph and Detective Warrant Officer Samual September were driving down Thames Avenue when they heard gunshots and saw a man with a gun running towards them.
When they confronted him, more shots were fired.
The man dropped the gun and ran down Seine Road. Brigadier Joseph gave chase but the man got away.
A 9mm gun was recovered and handed in for ballistic testing.
A 28-year-old man was shot dead in Kei Street, Manenberg, on Wednesday August 16.
According to eye witnesses, the man and his friends had been standing in Kei Street, when they were approached by three unknown men, one of whom pulled out a gun and fired several shots directly at the victim, hitting him in the upper body.
Everyone ran in different directions but the victim collapsed and died. The three men fled on foot.
The motive for the shooting is unknown.
A case of murder has been opened for investigation and no arrests have been made.
