Police have arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with a burglary at a Rylands store last Tuesday.
Five men broke the Pep store’s shop window on Tuesday October 12 at about 3am, says Athlone police spokeswoman Sergeant Zita Norman.
Officers patrolling the area were alerted to the break-in in Old Klipfontein Road.
Police say they found the 19-year-old hiding, with stolen clothing and perfume, behind a tree in Old Klipfontein Road. They are still looking for four suspects as well as 18 DStv decoders and about 15 cellphones.
The 19-year-old appeared in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Thursday October 14.
Athlone police’s acting station commander, Colonel Jakobus Phillip Fredericks, warned the community that it was a crime to buy stolen goods.
In April 2018, five men robbed the store in broad daylight, taking cellphones and cash. (“Shop robbed,” Athlone News, April 18, 2018).
