Athlone police arrested one man and are looking for another in connection with a robbery at an Athlone petrol station on Sunday January 26.
According to Athlone police spokesperson, Sergeant Zita Norman, two men approach a petrol attendant at the Aden Avenue Engen garage shortly after 6am.
One man forced his way into the office, pulling the attendant with him and threatening him with a gun as the other man took his wallet with R500 and cellphone.
No shots were fired and no injuries were reported.
A 22-year-old man appeared in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Thursday January 30.
Police arrested a 21-year-old man following reports of shots fired in Hanover Park on Sunday.
Officers patrolling Halmans Walk at 9.45pm saw two men running and they caught one of them.
Police say he was armed with a silver Baikal 9mm pistol, with the serial number filed off and loaded with one bullet, and a black 7.65mm Browning pistol with the serial number still intact and loaded with nine bullets.
The man was arrested for the possession of unlicensed guns and ammunition. The firearms will be sent for forensic tests.
