Three people were injured after being caught in Manenberg gang crossfire last night, including a 5-year-old boy who was shot in the head, say police.
Shots fired randomly towards some men at about 6.45pm hit two women, aged 21 and 54, standing in front of an Irvine Street house, and the boy, who was walking to a tuckshop with his father.
“As the gunshots rang out, the 5-year-old boy ran towards a house and collapsed. It was then discovered that he was struck in the head and the one woman was struck in the thigh and the other in the lower back,” said Manenberg police spokesperson Captain Ian Bennett.
“The suspects then fled on foot. Three counts of attempted murder have been opened for investigation. No arrests has been made,” Captain Bennett confirmed.
Manenberg police chief Brigadier Jayce Naidoo vowed to bring the perpetrators to book.
“The disregard for human life by the gangs has shown once again how cowardly their actions are,” he said.
