Collection day

On Thursday May 18, the City of Cape Town’s Solid Waste Management Department provided an opportunity for residents of Bonteheuwel, Delft, Bishop Lavis, Valhalla Park and surrounds to apply for and collect a free home-composting container for their private homes.

The collection day took place at the Delft civic centre and formed part of the City’s home-composting programme which provides free home-composting containers to residents to encourage them to start composting at home instead of throwing their organic household waste (including fruit and vegetable waste, eggshells, tea bags, and leaves) away.

This is one of the ways in which the City hopes to reduce the amount of waste that is produced and sent to landfill sites.
