Athlone police are looking for two men who were involved in a shop robbery on Thursday October 24.
Athlone police station’s spokeswoman, Sergeant Zita Norman, said two men with guns entered Bangla Bazaar in Mabel Road, Rylands, and gun-pointed the shop owner and assistant. They tied them up with cable ties and told the customers to lay on the floor.
They took R2 500 from the till as well as cartons and loose packets of cigarettes to the cash value of R7 500. They also took three cellphones and one of the customer’s keys to his light blue Hyundai and drove away.
No shots were fired and no injuries sustained.

Athlone police also arrested four people for the possession of drugs on Wednesday October 23. Sergeant Norman said Athlone police and the City of Cape Town’s Metro police canine unit searched a house in Silvertree Street, Kewtown, a known drug outlet in the area. They found a plastic bag with 40 smaller packets of tik.
Two men, aged 68 and 41 and two women, aged 28 and 33, were arrested.
