Following the short season of her latest work Rock to the Core, choreographer, performance artist and activist Mamela Nyamza brings her equally controversial and provocative De-Apart-Hate, to the Baxter Golden Arrow Studio, until Saturday October 28.
Nyamza, a 2011 Standard Bank Young Artist winner, performs with Aphiwe Livi in a layered piece that reflecting the complexities of current issues in society.
“It is about unsteadiness, anxiety and edginess,” says Nyamza. “It is about shifting, shuffling, re-adjusting discomforts as well as personal and collective battles against intolerant systems.”
Nyamza is known for her direct confrontational artistic works about interaction and introspection. This latest work showcases her unique approach to dance and performance art.
In 2014 Mamela received the Glamour Award for Best Creator. De-Apart-Hate opens at 7.30pm with a Saturday matinee at 3pm. There is an age restriction of 14 years.
