Two people died within hours of each other after being gunned down in separate incidents in the same road in Hanover Park.
A man who was shot in Athburg Walk on Sunday November 17, at 3.30am, died of his injuries later in hospital, according to Philippi police spokesman Captain Lance Goliath.
Police arrested a 30-year-old man two days’ later in connection with the killing.
He appeared in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Thursday November 21.
A 28-year-old woman was shot in the head, after being caught in a crossfire, in the same road at 4pm on the same day.
Police arrested two men, aged 19 and 28, in connection with her murder.
They appeared in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday November 18.
Bishop Lavis police found a man’s body lying in Taaibos Street, Bonteheuwel, on Thursday November 21.
The man had gunshot wounds all over his body. The case is under investigation.
Just after midnight on Friday November 22, police were alerted to a shooting on the corner of Essenhout and Datepalm Road in Bonteheuwel.
Upon arrival they found a dead man with his head covered with blood. The case is under investigation
Two men hijacked a man on Saturday November 16, at 4pm.
According to Athlone police spokeswoman Sergeant Zita Norman, the man was asked to pick up a person in Heideveld and his brother in Athlone.
They then drove to Simpson Road where the man sitting next to the driver took out a knife and the man in the back took out a gun.
The driver jumped out the car and the hijacker drove off in the silver Polo Vivo, which was later found abandoned at Athlone Stadium.
Athlone police are looking for a man who broke into a house on Thursday November 11. According to Sergeant Norman, at about 10.20am, the owner of the house in Loerie Road, Bridgetown, heard a noise on the roof.
She went to see what it was but saw nothing. When she walked into the kitchen she saw her uncle with a knife in his hand. He took her laptop and left the house.
Athlone police arrested a man for hijacking a car on the same day at 9am on the corner of Jan Smuts and Klipfontein Road.
The driver was driving a red and white Nissan truck, which is a company vehicle when two men approached him, gun pointed at him and pulled him out of the truck.
The man reported it to Athlone police and after a chase they caught one man on the N2 but the other got away.
Athlone police are also looking for two men who robbed the Green Supermarket in Belgravia Road, Athlone, on the same day at 8pm. The shopkeeper was inside when three men entered the shop, two with guns and one with a knife.
The men ordered the shopkeeper to lie down on the floor while they looted the shop and took cigarettes, watches and cash.
They fled the scene in a white Opel Corsa bakkie with no registration plates.
Bishop Lavis police arrested a man for the possession of a knife and a hand grenade on Friday November 22.
According to the station’s spokesman Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi, while busy with patrols in Heideveld, police approached a stationary car and searched the driver.
They found one m36 hand grenade and one knife in his pocket. The man will appear in the Bishop Lavis Magistrate’s Court.
