Athlone SAPS arrested five men at a house in Belgravia for the possession of heroin, valued at R25 000 on Wednesday July 8.


Spokesperson Sergeant Zita Norman said they received information about drugs being kept at a house there.

“A joint operation between Athlone SAPS Crime Prevention and Sector Commanders were executed which led to the discovery of 907 gram of heroin with a street value of R25 000 and R6 393 in cash,” she said.

On Tuesday July 7, Athlone SAPS Crime Prevention members were on patrol and searched two men. One of them was found to be in possession of a Silver Caspian 9mm firearm with one magazine and 18 rounds. The 36-year-old man was arrested on a charge of possession of a firearm.

A week earlier, three men were arrested for robbing someone. On Wednesday July 1 they were arrested when police were alerted about the robbery.

“The swift response of the officers, led to the suspects being spotted in a taxi. When the men saw the police, they jumped out of the taxi, and a police officer gave chase and caught one of them, and found a shotgun in his possession. The two other men were arrested with the assistance of law enforcement officers,” Sergeant Norman said.
