In two separate incidents last week, Philippi police and Law Enforcement arrested two people who were in possession of drugs and illegal ammunition in Hanover Park.
Acting on a tip-off, police searched a house in Athon Walk, Hanover Park around 8.20pm, on Monday May 23, seizing 30 units of heroin found under a pillow where a 24-year-old woman was sleeping.
The drugs have an estimated street value of R1 500.
The woman was arrested for the illegal possession of drugs and is due to appear again in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on a charge of illegal possession of drugs on Thursday July 14.
In the second incident, which took place shortly thereafter, a 21-year-old man was arrested for the illegal possession of live 0.38 ammunition. The manwas apprehended at a house in Lansry Walk, Hanover Park where he tried to hide after having run away from Law Enforcement officials.
The man is due to appear in Athlone Magistrate’s Court on a charge of illegal possession of ammunition. Law Enforcement officers also found 20 glass tubes containing liquid cocaine to the street value of R2 000 at an empty house in Augulas Court, Hanover Park on Monday May 23.
On Tuesday May 24, at 3.25pm, Philippi police officials arrested a 27-year-old man in Lynith Walk, Hanover Park, after he was found in possession of unga and an undisclosed of money. The manis due to appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on a charge of illegal possession of drugs on Thursday July 21.
At 4.30pm on the same day, a tip-off led Steenberg police to a house in 12th Avenue, Retreat, where a 30-year-old man from Manenberg was arrested for being in possession of an explosive device, three R5 magazines, 46 R5 rounds of ammunition and a blast cap often used in ATM bombings.
The man is due to appear in Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on charges of possession of explosives and ammunition again on Wednesday June 29.
