Bridgetown Theatre Company (BTC) is inviting all those interested in being extras for a film shoot, as well as dancers, singers, caterers, security personnel, and unemployed youth who want to work behind the scenes, to a registration day on Saturday April 13, from 10am to 2pm at Bridgetown community centre.
The BTC has been assigned to be the community-based facilitating organisation for a new SABC 2 television drama series, called Melody.
This series will be filmed in Bridgetown, Silvertown, Kewtown, Parktown, Rylands, Belgravia, Alicedale, Belthorn Estate, the Athlone central business district (CBD) and Crawford.
It will be a 10-week film shoot from June to August. Melody will be screened on SABC 2 during the latter part of 2019.
According to Zelda Hintsa, spokesperson of the BTC, only residents living in the areas where the film will be shot, are eligible to register for these opportunities. All those chosen to be part of the film shoot, will be paid.
Melody is a 26-episode television drama series. The story is about an insecure, young talented musician, who gets an opportunity to audition for a traditional Cape musical. However, she discovers that she needs to defy her tyrannical father to achieve her dream.
Melody is produced by Gemini Twins Films and The Ergo Company.
“The main purpose for filming this drama series, in the Athlone area — besides the fact that the locations are ideally suited to complement the story and augment the production values of the series — is to help with skills development in the film industry. It’s about talent discovery, exposure to artists, job creation, inclusive participation of marginalised groups, cultural awareness and empowerment of small businesses,” Ms Hintsa said.
