Due to the escalating gang violence in the Hanover Park area, the Hanover Park Community Health Clinic (CHC) has reduced its operational hours from a 24-hour facility to a 12-hour facility from the Friday December 2.
The decision was taken lightly to ensure the safety of staff and members of the
community.
In the most recent incident, on Wednesday November 30, shots were fired in the main courtyard and at the main gate of the hospital. A security guard was injured and the security hut was damaged when the door was kicked in.
The following arrangements will be put in place:
Hanover Park CHC will be operational from 7am till – 7pm daily (including weekends).
Trauma and emergency cases will now be transported by Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to Heideveld Emergency Centre and Groote Schuur Hospital.
Paediatric patients
All Paediatric clients transported via EMS will be transferred to the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital.
Paediatric walk-ins will be stabilised and transferred to Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital should the need arise.
Mental health patients will be assessed at Hanover Park and transferred to Groote Schuur Hospital.
These arrangements will be closely monitored and the public will be informed if the situation should change. The maternity unit will still be operational on a 24-hour basis.
