Gang warfare in Manenberg claims young mothers life

Mishkah Hendricks was caught in the crossfire of a gang shoot-out, while walking with her six-month-old baby in her arms in Rio Grande Road, Manenberg.

A 21-year-old mother died after being caught in crossfire during a gang shoot-out in Rio Grande Road, in Manenberg, on Saturday March 18.

Mishkah Hendricks, also known as Michaela, was walking in the road, holding her six-month-old baby when the shooting started.

Manenberg SAPS spokesman Captain Ian Bennett said Ms Hendricks had tried to run for cover, but she was hit in the back.

The bullet hit her spine and ruptured an artery and a lung.

“She was rushed to the Heideveld emergency unit, where she died of her injuries. Her six-month-old baby was unharmed,” Captain Bennett said.

The shooters fled the scene on foot and are still at large.
