The annual Southern Mail Wynberg Family Festival takes place from Friday March 29 to Sunday March 31 at the Maynardville carnival grounds in Wynberg.
Now in its third year, the festival is fast becoming one of the more popular events on the Cape Town social calendar with more than 10 000 people expected to attend this year’s festivities.
Some of the expected attractions include an amusement park with rides for the entire family.
There will be a beer garden and more than 30 local artists, DJs and entertainers performing over the weekend, as well as face painting and other entertainment for the children.
More than 90 traders and vendors will be at this year’s festival, offering a variety of food, fashion, gadgets, toys, homeware and much more.
The City of Cape Town’s safety and security directorate, including law enforcement, metro police, fire and rescue, traffic services and disaster management will also be taking part in the festival as a major exhibitor.
The famous book shop run by the Rotary Club of Constantia will again be part of this event.
KFM is the official radio partner to the festival and will be broadcasting live from the event on Saturday and Sunday.
A massive open air dance party featuring some of the best local DJs will take place on Friday evening, from 8pm.
The festival aims to create at least 500 part-time jobs over the weekend either in the various stalls or as security and car guards, entertainers, ticket office staff, production crew and cleaners.
One of the main performers at the festival will be Early B who is best known for his super hit songs Leka Djy and Ben 10. He will be joined over the weekend by other artists, DJs and entertainers, including top local band Sons of Selassi, Katherine Swaine, Andre Nel and M-Net Idols finalists Mark Haze, Zoe Zana and London Louw. The resident DJ for the weekend will be Ron X.
The Southern Mail Wynberg Family Festival takes place on Friday March 29, from 4pm to 10pm; Saturday March 30, from 11am to 10pm; and Sunday March 31, from 11am to 7pm. Entry costs R40 or R20 for children aged 6 to 12 and pensioners.
The festival has a zero tolerance attitude towards all forms of illegal substances.
