More than a thousand hopefuls registered to audition at the Cape Town leg of Idols SA.
Auditions for season 12 of Idols SA took place at GrandWest last week, on Saturday March 5. Cape Town was the city where the last round of auditions was held and received the second highest number of golden ticket winners – with 20 tickets given out.
On Wednesday March 9, Idols SA judges in the company of a guest judge, Afrikaans rap superstar and Capetonian, Jack Parow, decided which contestants were deserving of a golden ticket, putting them through to the next round of this popular singing competition.
Jack Parow replaced Gareth Cliff for the Cape Town auditions, as he was away in the America. The rest of the judging panel stayed the same.
The Athlone News spoke to a golden ticket winner from Athlone, who you can expect to see in Sun City at Theatre Week.
Clinton Daniels, 28, has auditioned before, but never received a golden ticket. “I entered in season 6, but didn’t make it. I decided that season 12 is going to be my year,” said Clinton.
Clinton sang It’s My Life, a Bon Jovi classic released in 2000.
“I did a slower version and they actually stopped me because I was singing it too slow. I had to do another song. They asked if I prepared another song, and I did – Royals by Lorde. I thought I’m going home without a golden ticket,” Clinton said.
He received three yeses from judges Unathi Msengana, Jack Parow and Somizi Mhlongo.
“I’m aiming to go all the way, I’m hoping to win,” he said. “I’m excited to go to Theatre Week, I know there’s a lot to learn.”
This season is the first time the Top 16 round will be made open to the public on Friday April 8.
Season 12 of Idols SA will be broadcast from Sunday July 17 on Mzansi Magic, DStv channel 161 at 5pm.
