Members of the Siva Aalayam, pictured, in Ruth Road, Rylands, distributed 230 hampers to underprivileged families in Rylands, Cravenby and Pelican Park ahead of Deepavali, also known as Diwali, which will be celebrated this weekend. The hampers include food items and toiletries. The temple has run the project for the past 16 years and they rely on donations to make Deepavali enjoyable for those who are less fortunate. The Hindu Festival of Lights symbolises the victory of good over evil, light over darkness and this is the time for sharing with each other.
