The Woodlands Woman Support Group has come to the aid of several families displaced by a fire in Manenberg.
The fire ravaged seven wendy houses and the kitchens of two houses in Irvine Street Manenberg, on Friday December 17.
On Thursday December 23, the group from Mitchell’s Plain donated clothing and food parcels to the families affected by the fire.
The blaze was one of several in recent weeks.
Last Monday, about 100 people were displaced when two double-storeys and about 40 wendy houses and shacks were damaged in two fires in Rylands Road, Rylands.
Two days before that, on Saturday December 11, at 2pm, fire crews responded to a fire at the Vygieskraal informal settlement in Canal Road, Belgravia, where about 90 people were displaced and 40 shacks and wendy houses damaged.
Mayoral committee member for human settlements Malusi Booi has appealed to the public to take basic safety precautions, as most fires, he said, were due to negligence or intoxication.
