It’s back to school in a week’s time, but many boys will go back without a fresh haircut.
The Callas Foundation in Bridgetown aims to change this by asking residents and barbers to sponsor boys’ haircuts before they go back to school on Wednesday January 15.
Many boys were at risk of being bullied or feeling left out because their parents could not afford to send them for haircuts, said the foundation’s founder, Caroline Peters.
Through the Callas Foundation, barbershops, and donations, 70 boys had free haircuts last year. This year, Ms Peters aims to help 150 boys.
“We need sponsors. This drive fosters positivity, builds confidence in the boys and sends them off to school with pride. We are looking for people to make donations and barbers to offer cuts for free. Even if you sponsor one haircut. My work with boys has just increased over the time. The teachers can see the change in the boys that we help,” she said.
