Frances Christine September celebrated her 90th birthday on Thursday December 9.
Ma September, who is originally from Suurbraak, a village near Swellendam in the Overberg district, moved to Cape Town as a young woman.
She and her late husband, Frederick, settled in Lansdowne 60 years ago, where she still lives.
She has also been a member of St Aiden’s Anglican church in Lansdowne for 60 years.
Ma September was among the first women of colour to have worked as a chauffeur. At her age, she still drives her own car.
She has 11 children, 32 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
