Man arrested for illegal gun

Police arrested a 26-year-old in Hanover Park for the illegal possession .38 Taurus revolver.

Police arrested a 26-year-old in Hanover Park on Monday September 9 for the illegal possession of a gun.

Officers patrolling the area at 12.30pm chased a man who ran when he saw them in Athwood Road.

According to Philippi police station spokesman Captain Lance Goliath, the man threw his gun into Oribi Court and continued to run. Police caught the man and recovered a loaded .38 Taurus revolver with the serial number filed off.

Gunmen shot a man as he slept in his shack in Pearl Crescent, Belgravia Estate, on Wednesday September 11, at 1.35am. The victim was hit in the chest and taken to Groote Schuur Hospital, where he is in a stable condition. The shooters are still at large.
