A 25-year-old man was arrested in Manenberg on Wednesday night after he shot at Metro police officers who were patrolling in the area.

At 11:20pm, the officers saw a suspicious man at the corner of Zwakop and Thames Walk. When the man saw the officers, he pulled a firearm and fired one shot in the direction of the officers.

He then ran down Thames Walk and again fired two shots, prompting the officers to return fire.

The man ran into a house and threw his firearm on the roof of a wendy house. The officers caught up with him. He was arrested.

Metro police spokesperson Ruth Solomons said, “The firearm was removed from the roof and the officers confiscated a Taurus 9mm PT 24/7 pistol with its serial number filed off, one magazine and three live rounds of ammunition.”

The suspect will be charged with attempted murder, illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
