Moegamat Sedick Davids, 29, was sentenced to 23 years by the Cape Town High Court on Friday November 17.
He was found guilty of the murder of a 28-year-old woman in Marlin Street, Manenberg, in February last year, as well as the possession of a firearm and ammunition and was also charged under the Prevention of Organised Crime Act (POCA).
Davids was one of 22 people who were taken in for questioning after shots were fired from a taxi they were driving in.
Police investigations proved that Davids was the shooter and the rest of men were released.
Three men were arrested in connection with the killing of a 30-year-old man in Gamtoos Road, Manenberg, on Saturday November 18.
According to Manenberg police spokesman Captain Ian Bennett, the man was walking down the road when he was approached by a group of men. Shots were fired, he was hit in the head and died on the scene. The men appeared in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Monday November 20.
