A man was stabbed during a robbery at an Athlone drug-rehab centre.
The victim was asleep in his room at the centre in Church Street, on Friday November 8, at 5am, when he woke to find a man standing over him with a knife, according to Athlone police spokeswoman Sergeant Zita Norman.
The intruder stabbed
him when he refused to surrender his cellphone and laptop.
The attacker took the cellphone, jumped through a window and fled.
The centre’s staff took the injured man for medical treatment.

Car theft has been on the rise in Gatesville, Rylands Estate and Athlone since the start of November and Toyotas, Nissans and Fiats are most in demand, according to Athlone police station commander Colonel Mark Adonis.
He warned the public to take extra care locking their cars, arming car alarms and installing gear locks in the run-up to the festive season.
