The Manenberg public swimming pool has been closed until further notice following an attack on lifeguards by patrons on Saturday February 16.
The staff were reportedly stoned, resulting in one lifeguard being injured.
This is the second time that the pool has been closed in the past few weeks. In the first incident, a staff member was injured after he was attacked by a group of youths who tried to break through the fence.
The City of Cape Town has condemned the latest incident.
Mayoral committee member for community services and health, Zahid Badroodien, said: “This is extremely disappointing. It is a great pity that the actions of a few are putting the rest of the community’s enjoyment of this public facility at risk.”
He also called on community members to help look after the facility and prevent anti-social behaviour from taking place.
