Motorist shot

A crowd gathered following the hijacking in Goodwood.

Hijackers shot and wounded a motorist, 52, on the corner of Jakes Gerwel Drive and Denneboom Avenue, near GrandWest Casino, in Goodwood on Tuesday September 25.

According to provincial police spokesman Captain FC van Wyk, the victim was on his way to deposit money at a nearby bank.

“He was approaching the robots, and when he stopped, a grey Toyota Corolla Sprinter stopped, and three men jumped out and approached his car. One of the hijackers, shot the complainant once in the upper right leg and also assaulted him in the face,” he said.

The hijackers fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital. Police are investigating, but they have made no arrests.
