New blood

* After its annual general meeting on Saturday April 23, the Muslim Judicial Council (MJC) (SA) elected a new president, secretary general, treasurer and executive council members. The two candidates standing for president were Sheikh Riad Fataar and Sheikh Irfaan Abrahams. Both candidates had been asked to do a presentation on their vision for the position of president of the MJC (SA). The voting process concluded with Sheikh Irfaan Abrahams, pictured, being elected. Look out for next week’s Athlone News in which we’ll be interviewing Sheikh Abrahams about his background and his plans for the future.
