■ Belthorn Primary School in Belgravia had nowhere to gather for assembly except outside in the open quad, exposed to the harsh summer sun with no protection from the wind or rain until the school’s principal, Aneen Abels, approached the Rotary Club of Groote Schuur for help. With funding from the Rotary Club of Claremont, the Rotary Club of Groote Schuur installed a blue shade canopy across the school’s quad. This new shade port now provides the pupils with a suitable meeting place to gather as a school. “This project is one of many that the Rotary Club of Claremont’s outreach programme helps make possible, by financially assisting other Rotary clubs from Namibia to Cape Town,” said Peter Trebble, chairperson of the programme’s organising committee.
