Manenberg police are urging the community to come forward with information after the body a newborn baby was found at the Silverstream sewerage pump station on Monday.
Manenberg police station spokesman Captain Ian Bennett said a workman cleaning a sewage tank made the discovery.
“They alerted SAPS to their discovery and SAPS divers came to remove the body from the sewerage tank. The body will be sent for tests to determine whether the little infant was alive at birth.
“The investigation will look into who knew about a pregnancy or was pregnant and cannot give an account of the birth of a child,” he said.
A case of concealment of birth has been opened for investigation.
