■ Nurses from Dr Abdurahman day hospital celebrated International Nurses Day on Friday May 12 by stressing their commitment to the community. “I want nurses to know that patient-centred care comes first, and we should not lose sight of our passion and the reason we chose this profession,” said Desiree Marman, a clinical nursing practitioner. Marilyn Stroebel, a nurse with 20 years’ experience, said nurses should be “understanding towards others”, while Staff nurse Liatile Jaji said those entering the service should have empathy for their patients and “be willing to work hard in order to provide quality-patient care”.
