Seven people were arrested at a house in Manenberg last week for the possession of 1 100 mandrax tablets, which amounted to a street value of R100 000.
Manenberg SAPS made the arrest on Thursday December 15, at about 8pm at a house in Sabie Crescent, Manenberg. The seven people included three women aged 41, 30, and 18, and four men aged 27 to 35.
The arrest followed information received by SAPS’ crime prevention unit regarding a large amount of mandrax tablets which was found hidden in the bedroom of the house.
The suspects appeared in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court for the possession of drugs on Monday December 19.
Brigadier Enolium Joseph sent out a clear warning to the community not to get involved in gang activities. “Keeping and allowing illegal substances or weapons to be kept at your premises for whatever reason will see our community rot from the core.
“Community members who feel there is nothing wrong with harbouring criminals or hiding illegal items which belong to gangs, need to think again as they will be criminalising themselves. These community members have then also contributed to the killing of our youth. This must stop and they must not expect any leniency from SAPS,” said Brigadier Joseph.
Anyone with information regarding any illegal substances can contact Manenberg SAPS on 021 699 9400 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
