Police seize banned firearm

The firearm and ammunition siezed by police.

Metro Police officers arrested a man for the possession of a prohibited firearm on Wednesday July 18, during crime prevention patrols in Hanover Park.

The officers spotted a white Jaguar speeding past and jumping a red traffic light on the corner of Goven Mbeki Road and Hanover Park Avenue.

Officers gave chase and after a short pursuit, brought the Jaguar to a stop. While interviewing the driver, he appeared nervous, prompting the officers to search the car.

They found a silver Taurus firearm with the serial number filed off, 12 rounds of ammunition and a magazine.
