The Lions Club of Kirstenbosch, which celebrates its diamond jubilee this year, distributed food hampers to various disadvantaged communities in the Western Cape.
The food hampers were supplied by Gift of the Givers, together with blankets. Kirstenbosch Lions Club and Gift of the Givers have a long partnership in serving the needs of the underprivileged.
Sundru Pillay, past president of Kirstenbosch Lion’s said this partnership enables Gift of the Givers to extend the distribution of aid to areas given the network of Lions clubs.
In recognition of the partnership and recognising the outstanding work done by Gift of the Givers, founder Dr Imtiaaz Suliman, was awarded the Melvyn Jones International Lions Award last year. The Melvyn Jones Award is a worldwide recognition of outstanding humanitarian work.
On Friday July 10, Mount View High School in Hanover Park, received much-needed food hampers for their pupils.
The school management identified needy families within the school community.
Zainunesha Abrahams, the newly elected president of Kirstenbosch Lions Club, accepted the donation at the Samaj Centre in Gatesville.
