Police arrested a 22-year-old suspect for shooting a man in the buttocks in Manenberg last week.
The 37-year-old was shot in Pecos Walk on Friday September 22.
Manenberg police spokesman Captain Ian Bennett said the suspect was identified as he fled. He was due to appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court yesterday, Tuesday September 26.
On Saturday September 23, a 53-year-old man was shot in the leg in gang crossfire in Ruimte Road, Manenberg.
Captain Bennett said the perpetrators fled and the victim was taken to hospital.
On the same day, at 11am, a 28-year-old man was shot in his stomach by rival gangsters while he was walking with a friend in Pam Court, Manenberg. The men ran off and the victim was taken to hospital. His friend was unhurt. No arrests have been made.
Mystery gunmen fired randomly at party guests in Elbe Road, Manenberg, on Sunday September 24, wounding three men. Police believe the incident is gang-related. No arrests have been made.
Athlone police are hunting eight men who allegedly broke into an Angle Road wendy house, in Bokmakierie, in the early hours of Friday morning and stole R120 000. When the occupant answered a knock on the door at 1.30am on Friday September 22, he was held up at gunpoint and ordered to open a safe in his cupboard, said Athlone police spokeswoman Sergeant Zita Norman.
Police said the robbers, one apparently wearing a police reflector jacket at the time, took the cash from the safe and a cellphone before fleeing in two vehicles.
Police responding to shots fired in Manenberg on Thursday September 21, arrested a 30-year-old man with an illegal firearm and ammunition.
Residents pointed officers tracking the source of the sound to Letaba Road, where a man was standing in the road with a gun. The suspect threw the firearm over a fence as the officers closed in.
Police retrieved a 7.65 pistol with nine bullets, which will be sent for ballistic testing. Residents can report crime to their local police station or to Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
