A gunman opened fire on two men sitting in a parked car in Welcome Estate, killing one of them and seriously wounding the other, on Tuesday July 12, at 1pm.
Lucien Henry, 23, was shot in the back and fatally wounded, and his 30-year-old friend, Taariq Mohamed, was hit in the chest and neck, according to Maneneberg police spokesman Captain Ian Bennet. The two men had been sitting in a white Toyota Tazz parked on the corner of 3rd and 5th streets, when a man walked by and fired several shots into the car.
Mr Henry drove the car away but crashed into a traffic light in Klipfontein Road, about five minutes from the scene of the shooting. He was decared dead at the scene by Maneneberg police. The gunman fled on foot and is still at large.
Mr Mohamed was taken to Groote Schuur Hospital and remains in a serious condition. Police are investigating charges of murder and attempted murder. Anyone with information, can call Manenberg SAPS 0216999400 or Crime Stop 0860010111.
* Police arrested a 47-year-old man from Hanover Park in Kei Street, Manenberg, on Wednesday July 13, for possession and dealing of drugs. Officers who had searched the house found eight bankies of dagga, 93 half mandrax tablets, 93 sticks of dagga and R3 021 in cash, said Captain Bennet.
