■ Supporters of 30 Siqalo protesters arrested for public violence gathered outside the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Friday May 4, singing freedom songs and toyi toying, calling for their immediate release and for the charges to be dropped. The supporters claim the police arrested people randomly and that many of those arrested were not actively involved in the protest. After the court’s lunch break, representatives from the supporters group who attended the hearing came to tell the crowd that those arrested had been released on “free bail” and ordered to appear in court again on Wednesday June 20.
