Sterling work

Magedien Davids, Ward 48 councillor

I am deeply honoured and privileged to have an opportunity to officially thank and praise the sterling work of the Athlone News, in our community.

Over the past few years, I have had the opportunity to appraise the function, role and contributions of this media towards local development and growth in the City of Cape Town.

I believe that the community press serves the following great functions: information sharing, capacity building through creating awareness of local issues, building and strengthening of social human capital thereby educating and entertaining the masses, highlighting the trials and tribulations, challenges and achievements in our communities, celebrating milestones in the lives of ordinary citizens as well as introducing rising stars and talent in the City of Cape Town and surrounds.

It also serves as an outlet and opportunity haven for job-seekers and small business entrepreneurs, a notification hub for local community matters, imbizos, meetings, issues and pertinent business – ensuring growth in local sustainable development.

Furthermore, I have to thank the Athlone News editorial staff for their endeavours and assistance in covering our ward councillors’ track records and granting an introduction page to the newcomers, ahead of the local government elections 2016.

My very best wishes and accolades accompany this letter on the wonderful achievements of the Athlone News.
