Suspect held for Hanover Park man’s murder

Police found a 9mm gun and four bullets on the suspect.

Police have arrested a 31-year-old man for the murder of a 33-year-old Hanover Park man.

According to Philippi spokesman Sergeant Nkululeko Mnyaka, the victim was fatally shot at Wetton Circle, opposite the scrapyard, on Thursday December 31, at about 1pm. He had been shot in the forehead.

Acting on a tip-off, officers arrested a suspect in Hoek Street. Police say the man was carrying a backpack containing a 9mm pistol with four bullets.

The suspect is due to appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, Thursday January 21, on charges of murder and the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition
