A Bonteheuwel teen has the opportunity to take part in the International Modelling and Talent Convention in New York next year, but he needs to raise R100 000 to do so.
Angelo Antonio de Vos, 16, says he needs the money to cover his transport, food, registration fee, boot camps and training workshops.
Angelo auditioned at the Applause Rising Talent Showcase at the Hyde Hotel in Cape Town in March and was invited to attend the International ARTS Talent Showcase at the Silverstar Casino in Krugersdorp in September. He was then called to participate in the talent convention in New York in July next year.
The Trafalgar High School Grade 10 pupil says the convention will give him exposure to 350 talent agencies.
“This will open many doors for me. I want to be able to gain experience and knowledge of the modelling field and come back and give back to my community and help others to achieve their dreams,” he said.
Angelo said he was grateful to his family for their support.
“Growing up I had an absent father and my mother worked hard to raise us. My schoolmates always got me down calling me names and saying that I am worthless and that I’ll never make it in life so this is a huge win for me. My mom supports me fully but always tells me to focus on my academics as well.”
Angelo says that if he does not raise enough money to go to New York he will donate whatever he does get to a non-profit organisation in Bonteheuwel.
