Manenberg police arrested two men in separate incidents for the possession of firearms last week.
A 37-year-old man was arrested for the possession of an illegal firearm after Manenberg police responded to a shooting in Irvine Street on Tuesday January 16.
As they patrolled the area they saw a man running away when he saw them.
They searched him and found a gun with a filed off serial number in his possession.
A case of possession of illegal firearm has been opened for investigation and an additional charge of prohibited firearm will be added. The 37-year-old man was arrested and appeared in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Thursday January 18.
On Monday January 15, a 24-year- old man was arrested for the possession of a firearm and ammunition after Manenberg police responded to a shooting in Greatfish Road.
Acting on a tip-off from the community, police searched a house and found a 9mm gun with five live rounds of ammunition hidden in a dry wall.
The gun’s serial number was filed off. The man appeared in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday January 17.
