A 22-year-old man was arrested for the possession of an illegal firearm in Manenberg on Saturday July 29.
According Manenberg police station spokesman Captain Ian Bennett, as police patrolled Letaba Street in Manenberg, they noticed a group of men standing in front of a residence.
“As they approached they noticed one man walking away. When they got closer they saw him throw something on the roof of the house. On closer investigation they found that is was a .22 revolver with serial number still in place,” said Captain Bennett.
He was arrested and was due to appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Monday July 31.
Two boys, aged 16 and 19, were wounded in a shooting in Manenberg on Friday July 28.
The teenagers were part of a group of people standing at a tuck shop in Gonubie Road, Manenberg, when gun shots were fired and the group scattered, leaving the two teenagers wounded.
The 16-year-old was injured in his hand while the 19-year-old was injured in both legs. They were taken to Heideveld Day Hospital for medical treatment.
The suspects were not seen and they fled the scene.
A case of attempted murder has been opened for investigation.
A 37-year-old man was fatally wounded after a shooting incident in Heideveld on Saturday July 30.
It is alleged that the victim and his cousin were standing in Betsy Court, Heideveld, when two men approached them and one of the men pulled out a firearm and fired a single shot, hitting him in the chest.
No arrests have been made and a case of murder has been opened for investigation.
