Rylands Homecraft Club celebrated their 35th anniversary with a dinner and dance at Tuscany Gardens on Saturday August 11.
Chairwoman Ramilla Ranchod welcomed the guests and thanked some of the founder members who were present.
She said it was appropriate that they were marking the occasion in Women’s Month.
“One of the strengths of the club is that we provide a platform for all local women to find commonality across religious or racial backgrounds; to celebrate that we are women first and that we have shared experiences, interests and aspirations. In that light, Rylands Homecraft Club has become a space that has endeavoured to empower women through building a spirit of service and learning in our local communities. It has also become a place of fun, laughter and new friendships.”
Ms Ranchod also highlighted some of the club’s activities over the years such as hosting speakers on women’s health and wellness issues, making pouches for women overcoming breast cancer, making 1 300 scarves for school pupils and also putting together a popular cookbook.
The club also thanked the Hindu Seva Samaj for the continued use of the hall to host meetings.
The entertainment for the evening was provided by Bollywood Live.
