Sixteen clubs from across the city are gearing up to take part in Hamediehs Rugby Football Club’s Community 10s competition, at City Park, on Saturday February 2.
Among the clubs taking are last year’s winners, Primrose RFC, Manenberg Rangers, Surrey Estate Rangers and Caledonian Roses.
Mogammad Adams, a member of the organising committee, says the competition is the club’s way of giving back to the rugby loving community. Adams says, “rugby belongs to the people,” so, there is no participation fee for the clubs that are taking part.
He said the competition is based on five key principles on which the club was built; honesty, obedience, generosity, perseverance and forgiveness.
“We’re basically taking the 10s rugby platform and sharing it with the community,” says Adams.
Group A: Collegians; Vineyards; Sir Lowrians; Hamediehs. Group B: Rangers; Morning Star; Silvertree; Callies. Group C: Primrose; Goodwood; Masiphumelele; Progress.
Group D: Manenberg Rangers; Tygerberg; Raithby; Gardens Tech.
The action kicks off at 9am. Adults pay R20 to enter. Children 12 and younger pay R10 and the parking fee is R10. Call 082 522 5166 for details.
