Cameron Lombard, 20, from Ottery, literally has the world at his feet.
It’s just been announced that he will star in the next season of Strictly Come Dancing UK as one of the professional dancers partnered with a British celebrity on the hit BBC show.
Lombard received his call a few weeks ago, days before he had to board a flight heading for London.
Barely able to contain his delight, Lombard was happy to dance all the way to London.
The good news comes off the back of disappointment in 2020 when the world Latin dance championships in Spain, for which Lombard and partner Stacey-Lee McPherson had qualified, was called off due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.
In a year that brought the world to its knees, Lombard opened his own dance studio while continuing to work on his dream of showcasing his talents to a global audience.
More than just a pretty face, he’s got the moves, he’s got the charisma and talent. But, as any champion will tell you, there can be no swag without sweat.
Lombard, who turns 21 in November, has been dancing for almost as long as he’s walked on this planet, winning nearly every title on offer along the way, including back-to-back SA titles with McPherson in 2018 and 2019.
Long-time followers of SA’s Got Talent will remember him as the cute kid with the snappy moves that made it all the way to the finals in 2009.
“I am excited beyond imagination,” said Lomdard in a recent post on social media.
“Not only is this a dream come true, but a challenge I am accepting with both hands.
“It’s an honour to be representing Cape Town and South Africa and to join the world’s most amazing dancers on this stage. This is big for me. This is big for my family and big for my country, he said.
