Ottoman Cricket Club beat Strandfontein and the University of Cape Town (UCT) convincingly to move four points closer to log leaders Brackenfell Cricket Club in their Western Province Cricket Association (WPCA) First Division 1A campaign at the weekend.
With 51 points after 11 wins and two defeats, captain Mujaahid Toffar scored an unbeaten 202 runs against Strandfontein and UCT. He remains the leading run scorer in the WPCA First Division A.
On Saturday, Toffar scored 117 runs and Isma-eel Prince scored 60 runs to help Ottoman set a target of 235/7 against Strandfontein. The side from Mitchell’s Plain won the toss but were in for a huge surprise.
Bowlers Sadiek Davids and Abdul Galeem Rylands took 4/12 runs and 3/19 runs respectively, dismissing Strandfontein for 80 runs.
After losing the toss to UCT on Sunday, Ottoman bowled first. Toffar, coming in sixth, as a spin bowler, took five wickets (5/17 runs) in 10 overs. He also scored 85 runs, not-out, with the bat.
Ottoman’s caretaker, Abdul Razzak said the club from the Hassan Howa cricket grounds is confident for a top display ahead of their encounter against a stubborn Tygerberg Cricket Club on Saturday, January 27.
