* Helping Hands hosted a workshop for children on Saturday March 12, at the Athlone library, where children were taught how to respond in emergency situations. First aid instructor Samantha Adams taught the children how to control bleeding by applying direct pressure to the wound and how to apply a bandage properly; how to keep calm a person who has broken a bone; and they were also shown how a first aid kit looks and explored the contents of it. The children were also taught the emergency number 10177 and what to say when they make the call, including who they are, why they are calling, what their address is and also to wait for instructions. And lastly, they were taught the Stop, Drop and Roll method in the event of a fire as well as the safety measures to prevent burns.
