Gatesville post office has become a “smash-and-carry” for burglars – they’ve hit it seven times so far this year.
In the latest incidents on Sunday April 21 and Monday April 22, burglars got into the post-office depot through the ceiling.
They stole cellphone chargers on Sunday and then returned on Monday to have an unsuccessful go at the safe.
SA Post Office spokeswoman Martie Gilchrist has appealed to the public for help.
“If anyone has seen anything or knows anything please let the police know so that we can get to the bottom of this,” she said.
On Friday and Saturday February 22 and 23, burglars ripped open parcels, cut all computer cables and broke aluminium window frames.
Pensioners and grant recipients couldn’t collect their money.
On Sunday February 24, intruders got into the depot. They opened letters and trashed the office, delaying the delivery of post.
On Friday March 1, the post office cables were again cut, halting grant payments. Two weeks later, on Friday March 15, burglars took a microwave, fridge and other items.
No arrests have been made, according to Athlone police spokeswoman Sergeant Zita Norman.
