Police are investigating after a 40-year-man was killed and a teenager wounded in a shooting in Manenberg.
Three men approached the man and the 17-year-old boy standing in Gamka Road last Wednesday, at 8:30pm, and opened fire, hitting the man in the upper body and head and wounding the teen in his left leg, say police.
The man died at the scene; the teen was taken to hospital, said police spokesman Captain Ian Bennett.Â
The shooters are still at large.
On the same day, in Redriver Road, gunmen shot a 36-year-old man in the face and head, killing him.
In Kewtown, on Sunday August 2, at 4:30am, a 36-year-old man was shot in the back at the entrance of Block 14.
He was taken to Groote Schuur Hospital, said Athlone police spokeswoman, Sergeant Zita Norman.
In Bonteheuwel on Saturday August 1, at 3pm, police found the bullet-riddled body of a 25-year-old man in the road on the corner of Lepelhout and Loganberry streets. The killing was gang-related, said Bishop Lavis police spokesman Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi. No arrests were made.
A 25-year-old man died after being assaulted and stabbed in the back at Check Out Supermarket in Bonteheuwel on Friday July 31, at 4:50pm. Bishop Lavis police are hunting the assailants.
On Wednesday August 5, Athlone police acting on a tip-off arrested a 25-year-old suspected drug dealer in Kewtown. Police say officers who searched a house in Nerina Close found one bag of tik, 12 whole mandrax tablets, three half mandrax tablets, 33 dagga bankies and 11 parcels dagga as well as R4 810 cash.
On Tuesday August 4, police acting on a tip-off arrested a 25-year-old man in Heideveld on charges relating to the illegal possession of a gun and ammunition.Â
Police say officers found a 7.65mm pistol and seven bullets in a dog’s kennel. Police arrested a 26-year-old man in Bonteheuwel shortly before midnight on Monday August 3 on charges relating to the illegal possession of a gun and ammunition. Officers on patrol in Jakkalsvlei Avenue chased a man who ran when he saw them.Â
The suspect, say police, threw an object onto the roof of a house and when officers searched the roof they found a loaded black Astra 9mm pistol with eight bullets.
On Sunday August 2, at 8am, police arrested a 41-year-old man on drugs-possession charges, in Hadji Ebrahim Crescent, Rylands. Police say the man was carrying 41 full mandrax tablets and 15 half mandrax tablets.
On Thursday July 23, police were tipped off about a plan to courier drugs from Airport Industria to the Namibian border, and when officers searched a Petunia Road house in Silvertown they found six compressor tanks filled with high-grade dagga.Â
No arrests were made, but Sergeant Norman asked anyone with information to call Crime Stop at 08600 10111.Â
